Beast of Burden Winter
Founded in 2010 on the Erie Canal towpath in Lockport, New York, Beast of Burden Winter runs four out-and-back loops between Widewaters Marina and Middleport — 100 miles of dead-flat, 90% crushed-cinder surface with near-zero elevation gain. The 30-hour cutoff and late-January timing define the challenge: temperatures in the teens overnight, occasional heavy snowfall, and the psychological grind of a completely monotonous course. A Double Beast buckle goes to runners who complete both the Winter and Summer 100-milers in the same year. After a 2021 pause, the race returned and remains active.
