Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
The 100K began in 2015; the 100-mile distance was added in 2023. Point-to-point from China Wall Trailhead to downtown Auburn on the Western States Trail, the 100M covers 18,000 feet of gain and roughly 22,000 feet of descent through the Sierra Nevada foothills. Signature sections include Devil's Thumb, Rucky Chucky river crossing, Swinging Bridge, and No Hands Bridge. The 35-hour cutoff yields a Western States qualifier; in 2025, 159 of 235 starters finished. The 100K is the Golden Ticket race, awarding direct Western States entry to the top 3 men and women.
