Drift
Founded in 2020, the Drift is a 103-mile winter loop on groomed snowmobile trails through Wyoming's Wind River Mountains — the highest winter ultramarathon in the United States, cresting 9,840 feet near the midpoint. Racers may run, ski, or fat bike; all carry beacons, tent, and sleeping bag, with no drop bags, pacers, or cell service. Four heated aid stations sit up to 25 miles apart; tracking is mandatory, rescue costs $200. A 48-hour cutoff can flex in extreme conditions — in 2023, a blizzard held 11 of 49 to the finish. Average highs are 38°F; lows have hit -39°F.
