The route passes Gillespie Point and remote hollows with abandoned stone quarries; rattlesnakes are documented. Entry requires a prior 50K finish. The 36-hour cutoff yields a historical finish rate of about 49%, dropping to 30% in hot years; in 2025, 133 of 258 starters finished.
