FlatRock 101K covers 63 miles as a double out-and-back on the Elk River Hiking Trail outside Independence. The underlying 50K out-and-back — Kansas's oldest trail ultra, first run in 1995 — forms the 101K when completed twice, threading mostly singletrack through limestone bluffs and rocky formations with no long climbs. The 24-hour cutoff with intermediate checks at 25K, 50K, and 75K enforces consistent pacing. The companion 101-mile distance awards an 8-inch buckle; 101K finishers receive customized date-specific buckles.
