Colorado · Silverton
Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
Hardrock's 101.8-mile loop through Colorado's San Juan Range averages above 11,000 feet, crosses 13 major passes, and peaks at Handies Peak (14,048 feet) — with 33,264 feet of gain matched by 33,264 feet of descent. Sections go fully off-trail across alpine tundra; others require crossing ice-cold streams or traversing cliff-edged paths with hand-over-hand scrambling. The 48-hour cutoff means most finishers spend two nights out. There is no finish line tape: runners end by kissing a ram's-head painted on a block of mine debris called the Hardrock.
