Heartland 125
The Heartland 100 Spirit of the Prairie launched in 2000 on the backcountry gravel roads of the Flint Hills. The 125-mile variant adds a 30-mile loop to Eureka, KS that branches off the main route at mile 15—carrying runners through remote open rangeland with minimal course marking before rejoining the out-and-back at mile 45. The remaining distance mirrors the standard 100-mile course. Terrain is 99% dirt and gravel with roughly 6,000 feet of rolling gain; the 38-hour cutoff demands navigation and pacing through the Kansas night, with pacers not permitted until mile 67.5.
