Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
Born from a campfire idea by Sawatch local Caleb Efta in 2016, High Lonesome sends runners across five alpine passes — including through the mining ghost towns of St. Elmo and Hancock — on 66% single-track averaging above 10,600 feet for the full 101 miles. A five-mile exposed ridge above treeline gives the race its name. After 80 miles in thin air, a fast Colorado Trail descent provides the closest thing to relief the course offers before one final, deliberately placed climb.
