Hot TWOT - The Wild Oak Trail
Founded in 1988 by Dennis Herr, the Wild Oak Trail Run operates in February (TWOT) and October (Hot TWOT). The course is a 28-mile loop through George Washington National Forest — rocky, technical single-track with over 7,000 feet of climbing per lap — run four times for the 100-plus-mile distance, accumulating roughly 30,000 feet of gain. The event is entirely unsupported: no aid stations, no crew, no course markings beyond white blazes; navigation requires map, compass, and GPX. The 48-hour cutoff is firm; John Kelly's course record stands at 23:48.
