Hawaii · Honolulu
Five 20-mile loops through the Honolulu Mauka Trail System above Honolulu, with 24,500 feet of cumulative gain and 20 stream crossings per lap. The trail is 99% single-track — packed soil woven with roots, rocks, and mud wallows, with so few runnable stretches that consistent stride for more than a few hundred yards is rare. A koa warrior performs a haka before the predawn start. Historical finishing rates average 43–51%; the 36-hour cutoff is the same clock every finisher has ever faced.
