Mace's Hideout
Debuting in 2021, Mace's Hideout covers 102 miles through the Wet Mountains west of Beulah, Colorado — named for 1860s outlaw Juan Mace, who operated from the valley then called Mace's Hole. The course climbs 22,500 feet at an average altitude above 9,000 feet, opening with an 18.6-mile, 6,600-foot ascent to Greenhorn aid station before descending through fir-and-spruce forest on the east slope and pinon-juniper scrub on the west. The final 2-mile stretch crosses 43 creeks at ankle-to-knee depth. Finish buckles are handcrafted by local artisans; the cutoff is 36 hours.
