Texas · Huntsville
Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
Running since 1993 — the oldest 100-miler in Texas — Rocky Raccoon loops five times through the longleaf pine forest of Huntsville State Park, with roughly 7,000 feet of total gain. Ian Sharman's 2011 course record of 12:44:33 makes it the fastest 100-mile trail race for men in North America. Pine needles carpet the rolling single-track, but exposed tree roots are the primary hazard and a frequent cause of nighttime stumbles. Generous cutoffs and frequent aid stations make it the canonical first 100-miler; Western States qualification draws elites chasing PRs.
