TWOT - The Wild Oak Trail
Founded in 1988 by Dennis Herr, the Wild Oak Trail Run is a semi-invitational held in George Washington National Forest near Mt. Solon, Virginia — four loops of a 25-plus-mile circuit with just over 7,000 feet of gain each, predominantly white-blazed singletrack on rocky, technical terrain. There are no aid stations, no volunteers, no crew, and no course markings beyond tree blazes; runners navigate by map, compass, and GPX. Entry is selective — the founder's guideline is direct: anyone with questions about whether to come should not. The 100-mile cutoff is 48 hours; finishers across all distances are few.
