Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
Umstead is eight laps of the same 12.5-mile bridle path in William B. Umstead State Park — wide crushed-gravel surface, no single track, no technical rock or root, around 1,000 feet of climbing per loop. It was deliberately designed as a first-100 stepping stone: remove severe topography, remote navigation, and heat as obstacles so runners can focus on distance alone. The looped format means crew access at headquarters every 12.5 miles, and the park stays open to the public throughout.
