Qualifier status per the 2026 lists
Vermont 100 grew out of a horse endurance ride; in 1989, organizer Steve Rojek invited runner Laura Farrell to run the course and 114 people showed up that first year. It remains the only known 100-miler in the US where horses and runners share the course on the same day. The route covers roughly 68 miles of rolling dirt roads and 30 miles of horse trails across nine communities and more than 60 private properties — land open to the public only during race weekend.
